Is it okay to install tile over vinyl flooring?
It should be okay to install tile over vinyl flooring, however, we do not know how the tile adhesive might react with the vinyl flooring. It might not cause an immediate problem, but later on it could cause your tiles to lift or crack. Instead, we suggest that you have a new subfloor laid right on top of the vinyl flooring. You could use ¼ luan plywood for this, which is inexpensive and would give you a smooth, clean and flat surface on which to install your tile.
