TOM: Good fences may make good neighbors but great fences keep the peace with style and security. Hi. I’m Tom Kraeutler.

TOM: A great fence adds to your home’s curb appeal and value but you’re not the only one who has to live with it. Do right by your neighbors and your home with a fence designed to meet everyone’s standards.
LESLIE: First, make sure the fence is legal. Work within your own lot lines, get the required permits, and check local rules for fence height, materials, and design.
TOM: Next, make sure the neighbors only see your fence’s good side. Some fences look great from any angle but if you choose a style with only one finished side, make sure it faces out.
LESLIE: Finally, a long-lasting fence shouldn’t be a drag. If the bottom rail hovers too close to the ground, rot and insects will move in. I’m Leslie Segrete.
