TOM: House fires are common this season, but they can be prevented if you deck the halls with care. Start by buying a fresh holiday tree and keep it that way with a new cut of the trunk and daily watering.
LESLIE: For indoor and outdoor displays, use only lights with the UL seal of approval. Get rid of any older damaged light strings and always shut off your holiday lights when you’re away from home.
TOM: Inside the house, use only non-flammable decorations and never leave candles burning unsupervised or near anything that can catch fire.
LESLIE: And before you burn that yule log in the fireplace, remove all flammable objects from the immediate area, open the flue and use an ash screen to prevent sparks from shooting into the room. I’m Leslie Segrete.
