LESLIE: With the warm weather, bugs, all sorts of unwanted visitors are finding their way into your home and maybe you’re like Marline who has some unwanted guests.
Marline in New Jersey, what can we do for you?
MARLINE: Yeah, we got up the other day and in our Jacuzzi – which we have not used; we’re in a brand new development in Monroe – and there were these tiny, microscopic, it’s like a black dot. My daughter says it’s like a reddish-black dot. And it was like all in the bathtub, on the windowsills.
LESLIE: Sounds like ants.
TOM: Yeah. It sounds – and they’re not moving so it sounds to me like it’s probably …
MARLINE: But they were moving.
TOM: They were moving. They were crawling.
MARLINE: Yeah.
TOM: Alright. Here’s what I want you to do. I want you to call a pest management professional and have them take a look at these. Because I can’t tell you what it is right now just by this description. It’s not specific enough. But …
MARLINE: I think it’s a spider mite of some sort.
TOM: Well …
MARLINE: Because we get a lot of spiders around here outside.
TOM: OK. But if you have a pest management professional come in, they’re going to probably recommend that they put down a pesticide that can control these and that’s probably the most effective way to do it because it sounds like they’re very troubling for you and that will control them. The pesticides today that they use are mostly undetectable. For example, we often recommend Termidor for termites and for ants because the product can’t be sensed by the insects and they take it back to their colonies themselves and it completely wipes them out.
MARLINE: My husband bought some stuff by Ortho and he sprayed it this morning and I don’t see any now.
TOM: I don’t recommend do-it-yourself pest control because you’re probably going to choose the wrong stuff, you’re going to put it on the wrong amounts, and you’re probably going to put it in the wrong place. So have a pest management pro come out and take a look at it. They’ll deal with the problem once and for all for you.
Marline, thanks so much for calling us at 1-888-MONEY-PIT.
