I have a Kohler gray porcelan sink in my bathroom and the bottom is now dull and staining. What can I use to reseal it without using sink paint?

I have a vintage American Standard Venetian Pink sink that was looking very dull and worn. I used that pink cleaner everyone is talking about and it helped. I am experimenting with wet 7000 grit carbide sandpaper in very small areas at a time and those areas are very shiny. I plan to follow up with some sort of protectant when finished.
The key is to work in small areas at a time to see how your sink will respond.
