I just installed foam crown molding in my entire living, dining, and family rooms. What color do I paint the molding? Is it supposed to be gloss? Is it supposed to be the same color as the ceiling or the walls? All three rooms are diferent color. The molding is already very white and looks fantastic, I dont want to mess it up with the wrong paint. I’m 60 years old and not an interior designer.
Our Answer
Clark, the sky’s the limit on choosing paint color for crown molding. But I will give you a couple of tips. If your walls are a color and your paint the ceiling and crown white, it’ll definitely make the room look bigger.
Conversely, if you paint the molding a corresponding color, you may find that it “frames” in the room visually and makes it look smaller. If you like the white, just live with it or paint everything white. Id’ use semi-gloss or eggshell as the finish. You don’t want to much sheen.
