TOM: Before you dump another load of laundry into the dryer, dump out the dangerous build up in your dryer vent. Hi, I’m Tom Kraeutler.
LESLIE: And I’m Leslie Segrete with today’s Money Pit Home Improvement Minute.
TOM: Cleaning your dryer’s lint trap is smart, but the bigger backup happens in the vent. If the vent is blocked, your dryer has to run longer to dry clothes, churning (ph) up your utility bills in the process.
LESLIE: More importantly, a blocked dryer vent is a danger to your home. Over 15 thousand dryer fires occur each year and many are caused by dirty vents.
TOM: Dryer vent cleaning is easy when you have the right tool. It’s made of a flexible piping with a big brush on one end and can snake its way through the vent to get rid of any lint build up.
LESLIE: For a safer home and a speedier, more efficient laundry day, clean your dryer vent every six months. I’m Leslie Segrete.
