TOM: Have you ever blown a circuit and thought you might need a whole new electrical panel? Well, maybe not. Hi, I’m Tom Kraeutler.
LESLIE: And I’m Leslie Segrete with today’s Money Pit Home Improvement Minute. When breakers pop, it means they’re doing their job and protecting one circuit from over-heating. But if it happens a lot, it may mean that the circuit’s not big enough for the appliances you use it for.
TOM: The good news is it doesn’t mean you need a new electrical panel, or service, just an additional circuit to help divide up the electrical load needed to run that part of the house, which is a far less-expensive project.
LESLIE: Now there are signs that indicate that you do need a bigger electrical upgrade. Like persistently dimming or even flickering lights, or if your home is still run off of an old-fashioned fuse box.
TOM: But whether the project is big or small, electrical repairs or updates are not do-it-yourself projects. Always hire a pro for these projects to make sure your home wiring remains safe and trouble-free. I’m Tom Kraeutler.
