TOM: Winter weather might start your home squeaking and creaking too, but a few fast fixes can silence them all season. Hi, I’m Tom Kraeutler.
LESLIE: And I’m Leslie Segrete with today’s Money Pit Home Improvement Minute.
TOM: If a door isn’t opening or sliding as smoothly as usual, lubricate the hinges and tracks with WD-40. It’s a good solution for medicine cabinets and kitchen cabinets as well.
LESLIE: Also hit your house key and then slide it into the lock to keep the interior parts working and prevent sticky situations.
TOM: If the squeaks and creeks are coming from underfoot, make a short-term fix to quiet them. Under carpet, locate floor joists with a stud finder, then pound a hot-dipped galvanized nail right through to the joist.
LESLIE: If it’s a wood floor that’s squeaking, apply a little oil soap in the joints. It will quiet the creaks and clean the floor at the same time. I’m Leslie Segrete.
