TOM: Garage door openers are convenient, but they can also be unsafe for kids, cars and even you if they’re not working properly.
LESLIE: Test your garage door opener by making sure the photo sensors on the side of the door are no more than six inches off the ground.
TOM: To make sure the sensors work, block them with an object more than six inches tall and press the close button. The door should sense the obstruction and stay open.
LESLIE: Next, check the door’s safety reversing capability by laying an object an inch and a half high on the ground in the door’s path and press the close button. Once the door touches the object, it should immediately reverse to the open position. I’m Leslie Segrete.
