I live in a house that has a fireplace insert. One of the panels are cracked. I take it that it is concrete. I tried to find the maker of the fireplace, but no luck. I would love to burn a fire but I'm too afraid that I'll burn the house down. Any suggestions on how to fix the cracked panel without going broke? Thanks, Pamela in TN
Our Answer
Cracks in these fireplace panels are not unusual, and I would not be overly concerned about hairline cracks. To make sure you're covering your bases, though, have the insert inspected by a licensed and certified chimney sweep. Choose that chimney sweep carefully, because many chimney sweeps are not qualified, and exist solely to find extensive repairs that are unnecessary.
