TOM: Summer Olympics may be just weeks away, but before they begin, now is a good time to plan a few events of your own to maintain and protect your home. Hi, I’m Tom Kraeutler.

TOM: Carrying for a house can feel like an Olympic level marathon, but if you set a smart course for strategic maintenance you’ll feel like a winner now and in the seasons ahead.
LESLIE: One smart summer event is a roof check. Get out that ladder or grab your binoculars and look for shingles that are missing, broken, buckling, or blistering.
TOM: Also, clean and inspect your home’s siding. Use a cleaner-like spray and forget (ph) to clear away dirt, mold, mildew, and algae, then check for developments like buckling, warping, and insect damage.
LESLIE: Finally, get a look at your gutters. Clear out collected debris, repair leaks, and extend your downspouts to prevent basement floods and you’ll be on the podium when it comes to home security, savings, and comfort. I’m Leslie Segrete.
