Joint tape is coming loose on all my ceilings I have popcorn ceilings. This is happening at the wall and ceiling joint. Can I Spackle this tape back on or do I have to take it all off and have a mess? Do I need a professional?
Our Answer
The popcorn ceiling makes this a bit more complicated, but you can do it yourself if you have lots of patience and turn out to have an undiscovered ability to spackle!
The first step is the scrape away the popcorn in the area you need to work. Then cut out the bad tape and replace it with perforated fiberglass drywall tape. This is much easier to use than paper tape as it is more like a netting and allows the spackle to seep through.
After adding two or three thin coats of spackle, and sanding in between, you’ll be ready to replace the popcorn. This can be done with a popcorn ceiling repair spray.
Once that is done, you’ll need to repaint the entire ceiling or just the repaired area if you can find a paint to match.
