TOM: If your home was built before 1978 your windows are likely finished with harmful lead-based paint. Everyday opening and closing of old windows releases microscopic lead dust into the air, and this is dangerous for people of all ages but especially for small children.
LESLIE: Any project with potential lead exposure calls for caution but can be done safely with the right help. For window replacement, make sure your installer is trained and certified in lead-safe work practices.
TOM: They’ll know how to locate lead-based paint on or near your windows, stabilize deteriorated paint, and remove dust during installation.
