Keep mold out of a finished basement by choosing moisture-resistant materials and finishes. Paperless drywall such as Georgia-Pacific’s DensArmor Plus is a great choice for walls, as it doesn’t contain the paper fiber that mold feeds on and resists the damaging effects of moisture.
In addition, instead of wall-to-wall carpet, which traps moisture that helps mold to grow, choose ceramic, laminate or resilient tile flooring. Small area rugs can be used on top of flooring if you want a softer surface underfoot, but be sure to keep them clean and dry so that they don’t attract mold.
