Natural Weed Control
TOM: Do you dislike toxic pesticides as much as you dislike weeds? Then try these natural weed control solutions instead. Hi, I’m Tom Kraeutler.
LESLIE: And I’m Leslie Segrete with today’s Money Pit home improvement minute.
TOM: First up, stop the weeds before they take root. Weeds are the first plants to grow in bare soil, so cover those areas with ground-cover plants or organic mulch to keep them from sprouting. Cut lawns high to slow the growth of weeds between mowings.
LESLIE: Now, if weeds are already on site, apply a thin layer of corn gluten meal granules. It’s going to prevent them from sprouting. It works best if it’s applied by spring time.
TOM: To kill weeds between sidewalks, splash on some horticultural vinegar, also known as acetic acid. Or mix household vinegar with lemon juice for an effective homemade solution. I’m Tom Kraeutler. For more Money Pit home improvement tips, visit Moneypit.com.
