Solar Powered Pool
TOM: Want to heat your swimming pool on the cheap? Want to take advantage of free energy and make the most of the summer sun? Hi, I’m Tom Kraeutler.
LESLIE: And I’m Leslie Segrete with today’s Money Pit Home Improvement Minute.
TOM: You may already use the sun to heat your outdoor pool, but a few smart adjustments can help harness even more heat and extend the swimming season by up to six weeks.
LESLIE: First, put your pool cover to work. Using it every night will help hold in solar heat absorbed by the pool water during the day increasing the pool’s average temperature by four to five degrees.
TOM: To soak up maximum heat during the day, pools should be uncovered and in full sun between 9 am and 4 pm. If nearby trees interfere with sun exposure, trim them back.
LESLIE: Tap into even more free energy, by adding a solar pool heating system. You’ll cut heating expenses significantly while increasing enjoyment of your pool. I’m Leslie Segrete.
