Spring Planting and Landscaping Tips

For perfect spring planting – wait ’til the weather is warm enough and then dig a hole as deep and about twice as wide as the clump of dirt surrounding the roots of the plant you want to transplant. Take the plant out of the bed or pot and use a gardening trowel to sort of gently chop up the dirt ball to loosen the roots. Put the roots into the hole and make sure the dirt ball is level with the surrounding soil. Fill the hole halfway with dirt before filling the rest with water. Once the water has drained into the soil, fill the rest of the hole with dirt. Gently pat the soil down. You can add a few inches of mulch around the new plants to keep weeds away increase moisture retention.
